Children's Poems by Amber Knowles

When I Go

For children, how do we explain what happens when a loved one dies? This story explains the possibilities with a bit of magic and imagination...

So now the mystery where I've gone?

The skies, the moon, the sea

Perhaps a twirling shooting star

A spirit loose and free.

I'll see you again my dearest friend

But when your time is right

But meanwhile I will be right here,

A star, a bud, a night!

The Little Lost Star

A little star falls in to a young girls room to tell her about how important the sky, and also nature, was to our ancestors, and not to forget...

Your ancestors used to worship us,

And dance by our starlight,

Guiding their ships around the world,

We kept them safe at night.

We don’t want your pity or your tears

But heed our wise old words!

Please look outside and really see

The beauty of the birds.

The whispering trees, the bubbling brook,

The slyly grinning crocs,

The march of ants, the spiders web,

The age old touch of rocks.

Cuddle Bats

The bats are fed up of being overlooked! Cute animals everywhere and not a single bat is celebrated!

Squirrel babes and hedgehog winks

Velvet baby kangaroo

Cutesy ducks with foofy wisps

And little ponies too!

But what about us bats?! We say

We have big eyes and stuff!

And underneath these leathery wings

Is the most delightful fluff!
